Good afternoon, Starfallen! Your DMs here.

After some consideration, we've decided to simply close Bardsong, rather than have things play out into November. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, however, we will leave the communities open to allow current players to finish their existing threads. Otherwise, the DMs will not be adding any further content. The discord will continue to run until the end of September.

So what was the metaplot? Why did the world break?

The Black Lady and the White Liege are, as everyone surmised, lovers. They balanced each other. It was their love that brought the world into being and sustained it, with all races and kingdoms living in relative harmony.

But no relationship isn't without its hiccups. Though the Dyad balanced each other, they are both also flawed beings, which lends to a possibility that the Black and White may have once been mortal. With the creation of the world crafted by their love, another being emerged... a 'child' of sorts, built by their insecurities, their flaws. Though the child has no name, Aurora would dub this entity as Doubt.
The Black and the White fought to suppress 'Doubt', to promote harmony. In response, Doubt continually grew and "lashed out", causing the odd calamity (the wasteland, for example, where the Starfallen found the bones of a lost civilization inhabited by oozes) until the world began to crack and fray. Helpless to continue to suppress their doubts, their power dwindling as the world began to break, the Black and the White drifted apart.

Thus the calamity a year ago reached its fruition, sending the shards of the world drifting through the endless sea of stars. The people that survived on the floating shards spent that long century fighting to live, wondering and hoping that their devotion would be enough to restore their world. Their devotion, in kind, was to the Black and White.

Desperate, one force reached out and plucked the Starfallen from their respective worlds. One force wanted the world to be whole again, wanted everything back the way it was. One force wanted to atone for the damage it caused, but not be suppressed anymore... yes, Doubt was the one who called down the Starfallen.

Doubt is without malice. All it wanted was to be accepted, acknowledged. With that, the remaining shards will over time drift back together as the Black and White's influence is slowly restored, and Starfallen are welcome to stay or be sent back home where they belong.

The lingering manifestation of words and thoughts left unspoken between the Dyad- of those rifts and differences between them that could never fully be bridged, yet were willfully ignored for the sake and peace of the world they had created- 'Doubt' was without malice, but its existence was nonetheless anathema to the love that served as the fabric of the world; fearing and failing to comprehend what they had given rise to, the Black and the White fought to suppress 'Doubt' from their world. But their problem child would not be denied. Some of the early people of the world even came to know, worship, or fear this terrible child of the Dyad, but as its name became synonymous with disaster and catastrophe- as it would hear the prayers and curses of those who suffered, as that which had come to embody loss and longing- it only grew further, and more fearful of its own terrible influence. The Starfallen might have even seen the outcome of one such catastrophe: the last remnants of an entire culture, doomed and trapped by grievous misfortune, cursing the supposed harbinger of their desolation in their dying breaths and strengthening a cruel gift it had never asked for.

Its worship became taboo, its name hushed, until both became forgotten to the ages, but years of damage had already been done. It was only a matter of time before the world frayed at the seams, no longer able to hold down the blight that was never meant to be seen. Thus the calamity reached its fruition, sending the shards of the world drifting through the endless sea of stars. The people that survived on the floating shards spent were fighting to contend with their fate, wondering and hoping that their devotion would be enough to restore their world. Their devotion, in kind, was to the Black and White.

But 'Doubt' had two gifts the Black and White did not: first, while blind to the radiance of love, it could see the dim lights that lay beyond the world. And second, unlike its progenitors, it had no power of creation to draw upon... but it was for this reason that it arrived at a solution the others could not. And so a strange force reached out and plucked the Starfallen from the distant heavenly spheres-- a cry for help it could not express and they could not understand. A force forever an outsider, that sought its fellow outsiders in hopes that they could see what the Dyad never could.

In plainer terms, the Starfallen were not children of the Gods; 'Doubt' was the one who called down the Starfallen.

And these Starfallen- these strange, otherworldly, base beings, who walked upon the world and indulged in its bounties, yet were never truly bound in full to its rules- never had so much as a pretense of a perfect nature. And somehow, when they came together, even in all their strangeness and differences, their flaws-- of which there were many-- were not simply swept aside. They were acknowledged. Explored. Accepted. Their differences became points of curiosity and attraction rather than words unspoken.

And slowly, the world started drifting and knitting back together.

Eventually, the shard of Galiaos, the Seat of the White and home of Austral, would come to join the landmass. The Starfallen would be able to indulge in new adventures for a couple months, but with the Garden of the Black and the Seat of the White once more in close proximity, it would only be a matter of time before old sorrows and secrets once more began to stir. Somehow or another, 'Doubt' would make its terrible presence known, perhaps through those who had deigned to turn their heart to it despite the pain its existence inflicted, and the Starfallen would have their chance to do what it had only ever longed for and what the Black and White never could: to stare unflinching at the ugly nature of a world and, with the combined strength of their bonds, suffer its presence and temper its nature.

So, there you have it! With all that said, we all greatly appreciate you sticking with us and Bardsong for as long as you all have. We hope you look fondly on memories made in the short time this game has lived, and bid you well. Stay healthy, seek even the smallest of happinesses in your lives, and remember to spare some love for your own selves. Take care.

Hello, Starfallen! DM Ami here. Here's the rundown for what we have lined up for September.

A new, very large shard is attaching to the landmass on September 15th. Upon it lays a sprawling city called Galiaos, and it is known as the Seat of the Leige. The White's followers, primarily humans and masked dragons, live peacefully within its walls and travel through its labyrinthian canals via quaint gondolas. Austral will be relieved to see that he wasn't the last of his kind, and will take the babies- now children- into the city to integrate into society via the schools.

The people themselves, however, aren't particularly warm toward the Starfallen. You see, they've been dealing with an odd string of crimes involving graffiti marring the walls and bridges- even some of the gondolas- within the city and they will become more frequent upon the Starfallen's arrival. Perhaps it's time to track down the culprits and see what's going on. Austral will try his best to turn the people to your side, but he'll need all the help he can get. We wonder what's going on...

Overall, Starfallen are permitted to enter the city and explore, but as a shard governed by the White, one must abide by the law. This includes the staunchly-enforced law that gondolas must never be ridden alone... gotta bring a friend! Or a date. (Loud singing about the moon hitting your eye is permitted.)

As always, questions go into the provided toplevel in this post. Otherwise, use this post to plan out your activities in Galiaos.

And here we are! I'm placing this here to post the results on the event log when it goes up, which will be in the next couple of days!

Here's how the auction will work:

-If you're the first bid, make a bid at or above the starting bid. ALL bids are considered anonymous, but are in-character despite this being posted in this comm.

-Continue to bid beneath each date's toplevel, outbidding prior bids to get your chance at a date with one or more of the characters that absolutely with no doubt in Madhuri's mind signed up of their own will!

-Amounts will be regularly updated beneath the date's picture to show the highest bid.

-The auction will close randomly! This prevents any sniping, but it's also incentive to keep tabs on particular dates and fight fight fight to get your bids to the top!

-Characters on offer are allowed to bid on others. Why not grab multiple dates?

Good afternoon, Starfallen! Your friendly neighborhood DM Prof is once again here to prime you for the coming month.

With the Expanse and its inscrutable omens once drifting away from the mainland, the Starfallen have likely been left with much to think about. But while July may have been a trying month, August will come to reveal that foreboding entities and shifting terrain aren't the only ones who have taken note of the deeds of the Starfallen-- they've been leaving quite the impression on their neighbors and locals, as well.

In fact, they're going to show a little appreciation, and arrange a little celebration of the Starfallen and their deeds! So kick up your heels, grab some exotic and potentially magical food and drink to enhance your festivities, and take a moment to relish how far you've come and how much you've already done in service to your new home. Everyone likes feeling appreciated, you know!

Of course, that's not all. It seems a certain someone has made their own plans as well-- there will be a Bachelor/ette auction as a part of the celebration's events! Now's the perfect chance to score a date with that fellow Starfallen who's caught your eye... or, perhaps, to jealously outbid anyone who dares try to take a date with your squisherbee! But don't worry. I'm sure the money's going to a good cause. ...right?

Hello, Starfallen. DM Prof here, bringing you news about July's events!

That mysterious phenomenon of disparate, floating landscapes known as The Expanse will be making its return to the eastern region of the Concord on July 7th, and with it, strange new mysteries to explore; especially since this time around, the matter of its make will seem far more... familiar.

In addition to the usual chunks of rock, forest, grassland, and other such biomes, the Starfallen will be seeing sections of The Expanse that resemble parts of their own world, especially those of familiarity or importance to its former residents. Unfortunately, they won't see any familiar faces in these worn-out places-- these glimpses of home may be otherwise intact and functional, but nobody is there.

Except monsters. As before, all manner of monster in the bestiary can be found in the expanse, alongside the best-left-avoided Destroyer for those who desire a challenge. Or who can at least run away really, really fast. Those truly fortunate- or unfortunate- might even find non-sapient monsters from their homeworld, as well.

Of course, this won't be the only thing the Starfallen will find in their trip into the expanse... but we won't spill the beans on those details just yet.

What we will tell you, however, is that any character who participates in at least one bounty (pending their update on June 7!) will gain an extra 50 EXP!

Can the Starfallen find anything in and/or bring anything out of these mysterious chunks of their home worlds?

Oh, there's plenty to find!... but attempting to bring anything out will fail, usually vanishing from their grasp the moment they turn their focus elsewhere-- or in more dramatic cases, simply falling apart, crumbling away, evaporating, or anything else suggesting a fleeting nature.

There is one exception, however-- a Starfallen may find and retrieve one item of purely sentimental value, equal to a level one regain, and take it with them back to the mainland. Just make sure to submit a regain request for it, putting the word "EVENT" in lieu of a proof.

Why are you tying 50 XP to bounties this month instead of tacking it onto the Expanse log?

When we'd introduced bounties as a concept for Bardsong, we saw them as an interesting way to involve characters with the world, to explore everything it had to offer, and- naturally- to make some fun stories along the way. This turned out to be a learning process for us as well, as we continuously worked to refine the system to facilitate these goals where it often fell short in doing so.

With the wisdom of a half-year and change of hindsight, we'll be focusing on making bounties as enriching of a process as possible, right down to offering a bonus for their completion this month!

What happens if a Butcher tries to eat a non-native monster?

Taste bad.

I have other questions!

Ask below, friendo.

Good afternoon, Bardsong! This is DM Ami.

It's June, so it's time for a new event! The reflections were interesting, weren't they? A true test of the soul. But what was that all about? Mysteries abound, but this time around will be a test of the body.

This event's core involves breeding, pregnancy and egg-laying.

A new shard will be arriving on June 7th to attach to the main landmass but it will be very small, perhaps the size of a pair of football fields. Upon it is a pristinely-kept lawn... surrounding a temple made of pearly-white marble. All is quiet for the visitors of the little shard, but there is a peculiar pull over the shard. The pull feels similar to that in the Outlands...

Once in the temple proper, the Starfallen will meet a masked, VERY large silver-scaled dragon- the temple's keeper- guarding a small clutch of eggs. He is weary, but friendly (unless you attack or threaten him or the eggs), and will ask them for help! The clutch is too small to guarantee the future for his kind. He wants to ensure these surviving eggs hatch successfully, and will ask one of two things:

1. Care for the eggs within the temple. They draw upon magic and the emotions of those around them. What will you impart upon the next generation of dragons? To help you with this, the temple keeper will attune to you... which will provide the effects listed in the next section.

2. Help make more eggs. The dragon will attune to you to facilitate this... which will provide the effects listed in the next section.

What happens when the dragon attunes to my character?

The dragon will concoct a tonic imbued with his magic. The Starfallen will begin to gain dragonic features. Horns, wings, patches of scales, the works! Effects are temporary, but the change can happen as quickly or as slowly as you prefer, and be as mild or severe as you like.

While under the effects of the tonic, Starfallen will also have bolstered confidence, competence and leadership skills. If your character needs a push to participate in the dragon-making or rearing, this is your perfect 'in'.

The keyword here, however, is temporary. All effects will be gone by the end of June. So you can have everything last as short or as long as you like! Fly, sing, fight, and court prospective mates to your heart's content!

My character wants to make more eggs. How will this effect them, and what are my limits?

First and foremost, the effects are gender-blind. Whether male, female or anything in between, any who wishes to carry an egg are free to do so. The 'gravid' stage can last as long or as little as you like, but all offspring produced this way will be eggs, which will hatch into silver dragons. Once the eggs are laid, Starfallen can take the eggs to the temple and the temple-keeper will gratefully take them under his wing with thanks. Hatched dragons can also be taken to the temple-keeper for safe-keeping and gratitude as well.

If you'd like to keep the egg and the hatchling that emerges, you are welcome to do so, so long as you have the keeper's blessing (IE, please ask the DMs. Raising a little dragon is hard work!).

Can my character make eggs and NOT have sex?

Certainly. Starfallen can have a vivid dream the night following the tonic's consumption of flying through the stars, the wind upon your mask (wait, what?), and wake up with a shelled bundle of joy on the way or an egg simply sitting nearby, awaiting your care or taking to the temple. You may still enjoy your dragon features, too!

All effects come to an end when June ends. So going into July, all eggs are laid and are in the temple's care or- again with DM permission- are hatchlings in the Starfallen's care.

Got any further questions? Put 'em down in the section provided in the comments. Otherwise, please use this post for all plotting and make sure to clearly state what you're comfortable with!

Hello again, Starfallen! DM Riki here. The mods and I have come up with something we think you'll all enjoy this month, but before we go over the main event, I'd like to bring up a few changes we're making to help provide the best game experience we can:

First: We will be sticking with one event per month instead of two. We will happily make room for Player Plots whenever they come up, but as far as mod events go, we think it'll be easier on all of us to not throw too much at you all at one time. Plus, giving the Starfallen more time for themselves means we get to be pleasantly surprised by their shenanigans!

Second: To help players coordinate event plans, we'll we putting up posts like these on the first of the month, letting you all know what to expect while providing room to plan things out. This also means events will go up around the second week of the month to allow for time to plan and...whatever else you wish to do in the meantime.

With that all said, let's introduce the event I've been holding onto for some time:

There's a superstition between Concord and the Outlands about treating your reflection with respect. This dates back to an old legend of a lake with almost impossibly pristine water, so clear that it would even reflect the stars in the sky. People believed its clarity would also reflect a person's inner self, so those meant to become rulers and tribe leaders journeyed to this lake to meet their reflections. If they came back at all, let alone in good condition, then their worthiness would be proved. Most people will insist it's a myth, to not take the story seriously since the lake in question was never found.

Until a recent expedition discovered a lake so beautiful, they could clearly see the sky in its reflection. With the superstition in mind, they asked themselves: were the Starfallen reflected in the lake as they descended from the heavens? What truths are there to be found in this fairy tale? Answers to this and much more will come...

To The Surface

This month, the Starfallen (some of them, at least) will come face to face with their reflections. These clones not only look like you, but know everything you know...and they're not afraid to let it all out. Embodying the person's inner selves, the reflections may speak freely about closely guarded secrets, thoughts, anything that the person may keep buried within themselves. To meet with your reflection means to confront your doubts head-on. Accepting them may not be easy, but doing so will have them returning to the lake. Rejecting them means...well. Let's just say the stories of people dying on their journey to the lake are true.

In essence, this is a Shadow event. Some of your characters may have grueling times ahead, they might get into fights, they might have to go over some heavy topics...or maybe they'll have a good time with their reflections. Maybe they won't face their reflection at all! We are leaving how you interact with this event up to you. Maybe you want to face your characters' shadows, maybe you just want to help your friends face theirs. Whatever you decide, know that things are going to get very personal.

(We also ask you please add any content warning labels to your top levels if your post involves heavy subjects).

Feel free to respond to the mod toplevel with any questions you have regarding the event. We're happy to answer them for you! And as mentioned, this post is free to use for all of your plotting needs, so plot away! We look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

THE HOT/CUTE OR NOT MEME

1. Post a picture. please link if you post more than one, and be sure to note (even vaguely) nsfw images!

2. Go around and rate others on a scale of 1-10 for their hotness or their cuteness/prettiness, for those of you who might play kids or unconventional characters. Or don't. It doesn't matter to me.

3. Discuss? Bashfully refute these claims? Defend your beautiful face's honor from such unscrupulous insults?

Hey there, Starfallen! Riki here. We've got some special plans for the upcoming event that we want to go over before the post goes up. In a few days, another shard will be colliding with Concord, giving the Astronomical Society and the Starfallen especially something to investigate. Emphasis on investigate.

Red Rocks part 1
(Not that Red, but he does rock)

This special expedition will be more in-depth than usual. The Starfallen will explore the new shard in segments, navigating through the dry lands as if it were a dungeon crawl. There will be surprises, traps, encounters, maybe even a few intriguing secrets to unearth as adventurers see more and more of this strange, barren land.

And you, the players, will be directing your adventure yourselves!... Mostly. What we've prepared is an overall map of the different areas, events that can take place in each, and a series of dice rolls that will determine what you and your party members will encounter. As the Starfallen find new areas, the page will become updated and their discoveries will become known to everyone else. You and your friends may have the chance to slip past and reap the benefits without trouble... or you might end up pitting yourselves against danger at every turn. The full set of rules will be posted along with the event on Thursday, March 4.

The important thing to note here is, unlike a bounty where you'll fight a monster or deal with one event and you're good, the adventure continues until you decide to return to the main camp or explored every area. For their safety and mindful that there's no telling what they'll encounter on the way, the Starfallen will travel in groups of 3-5. You're all familiar with party dynamics by now, but be prepared for a whole trip this time. Who knows? What you'll find at the end just might be worth the trouble...

Use this page to discuss and coordinate groups for the adventure. Please remember to list the classes the character will be using!

The Red Rocks Groups are as follows (stars denote mastered classes):

  • Indigo Ostriches- Durant (MNH☆/OUT), Lufein (STW), Adah (TRH), Knoll (ALC☆), Cecil (LRD☆/PLD)
  • Chartreuse Cheetahs- Kanji (GTH☆/SCT), Schala (SSR☆), Caduceus (CHP☆), Ayla (BLK☆), Rakka (BRD☆)
  • Red Raccoon Dogs- Red (CAV☆/LNC), Godwin (SKR), Harry (MSM), Nanu (OCU), [---]
  • Purple Peacocks- Velofnir (ALC☆/XPR), Jason (SLY☆), Pacca (CHP☆), Samus (BLF☆/BUT), [---]
  • Silver Sea Slugs- G'raha (ARC), Selphie (OUT), Asra (PER), Corrin (LRD☆/OUT), Ralsei (CHP☆/OUT)

    Afternoon, folks! DM Ami here.

So long story short, we've got a little something added to our upcoming event post scheduled for this coming weekend involving blind dating! Yes, those eyebrow-waggling Valentine's shenanigans are upon us, and what better way to help piece the world together than with a little awkward hand-holding or asking what each other's hobbies are?

    So here's how this'll work:

-If you'd like your characters randomly paired with others for a blind date, simply put their names in a comment to this entry. Pairs will be randomized and announced on Saturday night, February 13th!

As for how the dates work? That's entirely up to you. They can just spend time together and come away with a new friend, or ~sparks may fly~...

If you're interested in having characters have multiple dates, a particular person or speed-dating, there will be a prompt provided for that as well.

Most importantly, this is entirely voluntary... for you! If your character would never sign themselves up for such a thing, don't you worry: Perhaps you've a mischievous friend who decided you need to get out more...

Starfallen, one and all, the DMs wish you a very happy and safe holidays!

In light of the present holiday season and with the unveiling of the Regains page, we'd like to announce a very small, handwaved event in the form of a regain!

  • The people of Concord feel doubly excited the more the day of the 21st grows near. When asked, they declare that the night of the 21st is the beginning of what is known as Yule. On that night, while everyone is asleep, a pair of benevolent fae leave tokens for everyone to set off the festivities come morning. Their names are "Red" and "Rue", and they hope you won't try pretending to sleep so you see them. Ruins the fun!

  • From the 21st to the end of the year is a time for celebration, drinking, feasting and making merry. Everyone has survived a very troubling year and with you the Starfallen in such great numbers, everyone can not help but see to the next year being the brightest yet. Enjoy the great food and the great times!

What does this mean for you? Simple: A free level 1 regain!

To redeem your free regain, simply reply to this post with an item from home your character would like to receive. Remember that this is a level 1 regain, and to get an idea of what that means, refer to our example from the regains page:

"A mundane item of commonplace functionality or purely sentimental value which is otherwise unexceptional. (Example: A photograph, a royal pendant, a smartphone)"

On the morning of the 22nd, your characters will find the item tucked away somewhere within their vicinity.

Good morning, my dudes! Ami here with the player plot for the month. It's DECEMBER!! So of course I had to make something fun with it.

So here's the summary: Madhuri has been bitten by the Christmas bug, so she went hunting in the Outlands for mistletoe, gathered a whole crap ton, and has decided to decorate the entirety of Concord with it. Only, what she didn't really care to recall is that mistletoe tends to be blessed by the gods in every single freakin' world she's ever been to.

What's this mean for you, you ask?

Simple: Mistletoe is all over Concord from December 12th-24th, with the magical effect of giving you a warm and toasty feeling inside. You may feel urges to seek out a dear one and give 'em a smooch! Cheek-kisses, hugs and nose-nuzzles are fine as well.

There's one more twist, however: The mistletoe may make you feel like duking it out! The Ke-Mo have a tradition in the Outlands that, when two meet under the mistletoe, they must have a friendly spar. They call the tradition Mistlefoe.

So the choice is yours: Mistletoe or Mistlefoe? Will the plants affect your characters in one way or the other (or both? Both is good)? The possibilities are endless!

Use this post for plotting all you like, and I'll take questions if needed. This event's participation nets you 50 EXP, of course!
