It all began when you fell from the skies above, wreathed in flame. When you landed, you learned that you weren't alone: So many others, each from worlds entirely different from yours, have found themselves in his predicament, and know about as much as you do! The locals greet you with a cautious friendliness, welcoming you to the town of Concord. They tell you that the world was broken apart mysteriously not long ago, and are trying to devise ways to step far beyond the town borders to find where the rest of the globe went, get to the bottom of things.

But your arrival is nothing short of a blessing. Perhaps you, the Starfallen, are the answer to their prayers.

You also catch wind of a strange new landmass to the west that recently connected to this one; one comprised of primeval nature so vivid that its wild nature can affect those who spend too long within it.

    Now, where to begin...?

    I. Settling In

With two waves of new arrivals now having descended to Concord as falling stars, it seems the Concord Astronomical Society has become quite efficient at helping to orient their nascent Starfallen and assisting them in integrating into their new home. Of course, there's only so much that can be done to prepare someone for a whole new life in a whole new world...

    IA. Home Sweet Home

As one such measure of preparation, The Concord Astronomical Society has ensured that an extremely low-rent option has been provided for the Starfallen until they can find some sort of living situation on their own terms: Concord Crossing, a block of somewhat cheaply-made townhouses where their new arrivals are randomly assigned roommates among the ranks of their fellow Starfallen. Supposedly, it's a great way of building camaraderie; but without any choice in the matter, one can only hope their roommates prove to be amicable. It doesn't help that some of the units have only one full-sized bed for every two occupants, leading to some understandable debates and issues regarding the general sleeping situation.

    IB. It's Nothing

Taking the paths just past the city gates lies a small expanse of farmland; beyond that lies unkempt fields and hills. But before long, the sky darkens, the daylight growing somehow thinner with each step, until one arrives at... nothing. Just a sea of distant stars and an abrupt termination of the land under their feet into fathomless celestial depths.

Despite the strangeness, it's not uncommon to see people paying the edge of the land a visit, perhaps because its meaning is in the eye of the beholder; is it a sobering glimpse of the world's broken state? A beautiful, romantic representation of the possibilities ahead of them? A Sobering reminder that they're trapped in this new home of theirs?...

    IC. Comment Section

Another amenity provided by the Concord Astronomical society is a magical journal called a Liber Nuntiorum, which transfers the writing on its pages to every other such journal held by every other Starfallen. Just in case one would wish to write something to their new friends and allies. Or draw something, for that matter. Everyone will see it, so think carefully about what you'll be showing everyone else before you commit to writing it!

    II. Always work to do

Winter has finally descended upon the land in earnest, but the hazards, troubles, and labors of the world are undeterred by its chill. Requests are abound and while the people of Concord can handle the more mundane tasks on their own, there's a few monster-related or otherwise dangerous quests that's best left to members of the various guilds or the Starfallen. But at least there's good money in it for those who are ready to go out and earn it, right?

    IIA. Yeehaw!

    Location: Laourn

“There's a Great Featheraptor prowling around the edges of Laourn lately-- and good thing, too, since we have a Cavalier looking to make one her mount! We need someone with a strong back and a sense of adventure to see if they can be ridden-- and maybe even bring it back alive!”

Reward: 600 Sol for details on riding, 1500 Sol for a live capture

IIB. Hippity Hoppity Get Off My Property

    Location: Concord

“It's spring, and that means- you guessed it!- the Rabites are back, and in big numbers. But don't worry, I know a trick! Did you know that they're sensitive to music in their mating season? You can sing a song or play a musical instrument and they'll follow in line behind you! Just lead them to the woods to the north. Just don't sing or play badly; that makes them all go berserk!”

    Reward: 800 Sol

    IIC. Wild Animals

    Location: The Outlands

“We need to transport some more specialized arcane equipment into the Outlands, and we have to do it the old-fashioned way. We need someone who can accompany our caravan while we take it through the wilderness. Just remember that things can get a little strange when you visit the Outlands, so don't panic if you grow feathers or cat ears or start howling something! On the plus side, since it's spring, The Lady's Touch would probably make feel a lot more energetic too, right?”

    Reward: 1000 Sol

    III. Curious Happenings

Ask the people on the street in Concord or Laourn and about current events and they'll all be in agreement: The last few months have been particularly... eventful. Not always in bad ways, either, but certainly in strange ways.

Unfortunately, the aftershocks of these little happenings tend to outlast the events in question...

    IIIA. Menu Navigation

With the appearance of strange new lands once again on the literal horizon, the Men-At-Arms guild has taken renewed interest in revising their field survival rations. Designed to be taken out on long expeditions, these portable meals, officially known as NOMs (Nutritious Outlands Meals), are carefully prepared and stored to last a very long time. Their high calorie count doesn't make them the healthiest thing to eat, but all the grappling and exploring the Starfallen will do, a couple of extra calories can go a long way! These are readily available to Starfallen on expedition, but can be purchased at low cost otherwise in case the Starfallen would like a little practice in making them.

However, the problem with rations is they take some time to prepare. Some may also find the included tools and means to cook food a little complicated: pastes to light aflame to cook things, pellets that instantly boil water, stuff that looks neat when seen in action. The food is worth the effort, too! Pizzas, steaks, fruit cobbler, even coffee can be found in these rations. Learning to prepare a ration may be a good idea to share a meal with someone after a long day of training. Helping the confused prepare their rations will go a long way in making sure everyone is prepared, so consider it an additional, if unorthodox, sort of team building exercise. No one wants their friends to go hungry.

    IIIB. Hot and Steamy

Having heard tales of the Starfallen's recent expedition to a mysterious hot spring with stony pools of warm, steamy water, an enterprizing young mage from the Spellcraft Guild has decided she'll take a crack at creating her own, using only good old-fashioned human ingeniuity!... plus a create water spell, an augmented sample of phlogiston, a specially-shaped calalyst of lightning-attuned metal, and other odds and ends she had laying around the place. And to complete the ambience, she quarried out a small rocky cistern in the cool, windy heights of Mt. Ives, just beside the observatory.

Eager for feedback, she's entreated the Starfallen to be her first customers, and even offered to make the promised deeply relaxing experience come at no expense to them.

This might even have been a good idea were it not for the fact that, unbeknownst to her patrons, the complete lack of scheduling meant that Starfallen could arrive at a hot spring that was already occupied, after having already left their clothes behind them in the prep room; and wouldn't you know it, the door back out of the spring itself seems to stick...

    IIIC. Wet and Wild

It seems the Starfallen weren't the only ones to hear word of the artificial hot spring. A juvenile Foamdancer has somehow found its way to the mainland and found a new home for itself in the artificial hot spring. Such creatures are not typically dangerous to adventurers- especially not ones of this young age and small size, 'merely' six feet long or so- but they are still energetic, unpredictable, and very, very, very slippery, their bodies producing a soapy surfactant substance that tends to spread big, colorful bubbles all over the place. And to make matters worse, it eventually managed to find its way to the city proper. With the powers that be insisting upon its live capture for study and eventual relocation, the Men-At-Arms may enlist the aid of the Starfallen to try to chase and wrestle the thing into submission.

But even after it's subdued, there's still the matter of- ironically- cleaning up the resulting mess. Trails of slippery suds have been left all across town, and some careless Starfallen may have left a door or window open only to find a bubbly mess inside their housing unit. The good news? The substance- naturally- cleans up nice and easy, and has a fresh, pleasant scent. The bad news? Even trying to get the mess cleaned up will leave the hunters slipping and sliding all over the place on it.

    IA. Home Sweet Home

Her inquisitive gaze is downcast at two items in her hands; a book, of which notes occasionally appear upon, and a small scrap of paper with what appeared to be an address scribbled on it. The former was yet an anomaly to her, not quite understanding how it worked and far too skittish to test it, while the later was at least straightforward.

‘Starfallen,’ a word mouthed but not said as she walked slowly down the line of modest townhouses. She had no prior expectations of a living place beyond a dull, lifeless cube. A bed, a connected bathroom, and perhaps a dresser and nightstand at best. So, while some would consider these places cheap, to Steel, they were an extensive comfort. The thought of living in one for such a generously low price (well, she figured it was low, though her grasp on the monetary system here was still developing) was almost overwhelming.

Her smile, though small, was genuinely delighted by the prospect of living here. She seemed wholly content with the fact that she would have to call a place like this home, and was grateful for the opportunity despite how most might perceive these not-quite-run-down buildings. To most it was the bottom of the barrel, but to her, it was a luxury.

There was just one, small catch: she wouldn’t be alone.

    IB. It's Nothing

    It’s beautiful.

Strange, unreal, ethereal. An ocean of night laid out before the broken stones of a world torn apart. She sat on the edge, staring into its grand expanse, unafraid. Delighted, perhaps. If she reached out, she could almost touch those shining, ever-burning stars.

    And she wanted to.

The tips of her fingers dreamily skimmed open air, feet dangling off the edge as if she sat upon a swing, resting at the end of the world.

And who knows? Maybe that’s where she was.

    ‘It’s beautiful,’
she mouthed, feeling the lost words ebb into the abyss. There was something comforting about it, something wholly humbling. Like everything, in the end, returned to this. Soundless, wordless, beautiful.

What would it be like? To fall forever?

    IIIB. Hot and Steamy

There were a myriad of things to be done in this world. Jobs, education, strange creatures to be dealt with; if she only took a walk, she would find something to do. For money-- Sol?-- typically.

Steel had told herself that that was probably what she should be doing. Educating herself on the world around her, taking up simple jobs to help pay for food and housing, begin getting to know some of the other “Starfallen” that had landed here… but those tasks were daunting, and as a proverbial deer in the headlights, Steel chose to shy away from the should.

    Instead, she chose the could.

She, as a fellow Starfallen, could go to a hot spring (a hot spring! She had only ever read about them) and see what it was like. And maybe she would see others, and perhaps learn a few things through them. If one remained silent long enough, Steel found that others became quite chatty. And silence was something she had in spades.

Still, she was careful to bring her notebook and pen, as well as the strange book she’d obtained upon arrival. She couldn’t count on anyone speaking ASL, after all (and yet, the thought of getting either wet made her wince internally).

That thought in mind, Steel made her way to the hot spring, interested to see who else had shown up-- but, more than that, to see what a hot spring was really like.

Disrobing in the prep room was easy enough, her clothes neatly set aside. With some debate, she chose to put the strange book beneath them. It was too bulky, and thus, much easier to drop into the water. The notepad, however, remained with her. Even if she had to keep it an arms length from the water at all times, she felt better having some way to communicate.

The steam was a touch disorienting, but Steel stepped through, bare feet padding along warm stone as she approached the water expectantly (if not a bit hesitantly).

The young mage had been so excited and anxious to get her little project tested and evaluated that, even as he accepted, Primo knew something was bound to go wrong. The door seeming to stuck and being hard to open once outside the changing room was one of the first things he had noticed, though he gave it no further importance, he could always just wait for someone else to come and leave then or break the door if needed. Fortunately, the hot springs themselves were good enough so, aside from the door thing and the lack of a spell to avoid slipping on the stone, he figured there wouldn't be much to give the girl feedback on and moved on to simply relax and enjoy the experience.

Enjoying the warm water, the Sorcerer let his mind wander, going over the different people he had met so far and what he had learned about the world. With that and the steam making it difficult to see much further, it's not until the sound of feet are close to the water that he realizes that someone else has arrived. He doesn't remember the young mage saying anything about shared hot springs, but he can't assure that she said anything about it being a solo experience either. The lack of solitude is a tad annoying, but he's already pretty used to it in this world, so he simply moves to ensure that whoever it is has enough space to come into the water without trouble.

"Careful not to slip, our host was thoughtful but she forgot to cast a spell to avoid that;" not that there should be much water on the floor for that, but one never knows.

Steel paused upon hearing the voice, glancing to the stranger in the springs. She wasn't surprised, nor particularly skittish of her form, but did bring an arm up over her chest. Was he bothered by her entrance, or just being polite? It was difficult to tell.

She nodded, tapping her finger over her little notepad to reassure herself. If the people here couldn't understand ASL, then at least they all seemed to speak the same language. Knowing that eased her mind, and she inched her way into the water, sighing as she slipped down into its heat.

    This was amazing.

People just got to experience this? Whenever? She couldn't believe it. Her expression softened as she gently set the notepad at the edge of the water, careful to keep it far enough away. It almost went forgotten, her eyes closing for a moment as she let herself experience this luxury.

Her eyes opened again a few seconds later, looking to the stranger across from her. She reached up, placing a hand over her throat where a grisly scar tore across it, and gestured to the notepad.

'I can't talk to you with words,' she lamented inwardly, hoping he'd understand.

As Steel contemplates entering her new residence, an interesting sight approaches from the other direction. It was a rabbit walking on his hind legs. He stood three feet tall if you didn't count the ears, and had grey and white fur. More importantly, he was dressed absolutely immaculately. His suit looked like that of a butler for a very well-to-do estate. Even more curious, he had a pair of boxing gloves slung over his shoulder. Perhaps that had something to do with why he looked so tired as he trudged along. The bun's ears turn towards Steel as he draws closer. Looking up, he gives her a wave.

"Hello there. Haven't seen you around. Are you new here?"

    Growing pains

Kloblim felt... different. Something had been bothering her since she woke up in this world, one totally unlike her own. Her limbs felt different. Her jaw felt different. Her breathing felt different. Her psyfocus didn't work either. In fact, as far as she could tell, she didn't have it anymore.

She grabbed her jaw and gave it a quick adjustment, and realized, for the first time, it was organic again. All her body was fully organic again. Even her tail was... Well, it was attached again. There was the scar where it was torn off at the base, but the full tail was just back. She gave it a wag. Organic. Fully organic. She was whole again. How long had it been? Julerin was a good surgeon but she wasn't that good. Not good enough to replace her long lost original parts.

Unfortunately, she wasn't looking where she was going, lost in thought on her own rejuvination, and bumped headlong into someone she didn't know.

"Sorry. I-- not. Mean to. Thinking, much."

    IC. Comment Section

I am told this book is a rather unique item, that links to all the other books like it. Flipping through the pages, I see a number of pages filled with scrawling and fine hand alike, talking back and forth. It's fascinating, and I wish we'd had access to such technology at the colony. It would have made coordination much easier. I'm gathering it's some manner of magic that allows it, as I see no indication of tech, either in this world or in this book. Nor do I see any of my colony mates.

Can someone tell me where I am?

    IIIA. Menu Navigation

Kloblim was terrible in the kitchen. She could butcher well enough, though other were better. Tribar, Asbor, even Vistal was better than she was. She was a leader a researcher and a fighter. She also wasn't too bad at crafting, or even growing plants. But in the kitchen? Tribar had tried to teach her once, and the resulting food had poisoned the whole colony. Julerin's clinic was full for a whole day, and Kloblim had been banned from the kitchen.

Some of that food was probably in the freezers. She shuddered at the thought.

So when the Men-At-Arms had handed her a ration kit and told her she should probably learn how to make them, her first thought was not to try and cook it herself. Instead, flagging down the first person she saw.

"No-- Can't cook. Need-- please help?"

He stumbled a couple steps back as someone bumped into his side, but, fortunate for him, they were small enough to not knock him over.

He glanced over them. They... actually looked sort of like the other kobolds he knew, only with floppy ears instead of upright or nonexistent. "Oh, I'm sorry, are you alright?" They certainly looked rather... bemused at their own body. It was sort of strange; he'd never seen anyone look at themselves like that.

He knelt down, offering her -- her voice betrayed her -- a hand. "Are you new here?"

At least she ran into someone fluffy. She looked up at the strange creature. She'd never seen anything like him out on the rim. He seemed friendly though, so no reason to do anything untoward. At least, not yet. She took the hand up.

"Yes. I-- Crater. Wake. Confused, disoriented. Come here. Nice-- safe here?" She asked, seeming to struggle with spoken word. More trying to convey key concepts than saying them properly. "But-- Am health? Thank."

The man stopped as he passed by in the street, looked around as though hoping, perhaps, that another was being addressed. When no unfortunate strangers manifested from the aether, all that was left to do was sigh, and approach with a faintly bemused expression.

"Can't cook? That seems like a bit of a lack of foresight on your part. I'm given to understand that some very unpleasant things start to happen if you go without food for an extended period of time."

    Home Sweet Home

Traveling to an entirely different star was something of an old hat for Tiza at this point, but what was slightly novel this time was the news that the star she'd been brought to was in no immediate danger. Oh sure, put the world back together again, fix the shattered star, there was that of course, but this star had been shattered for a good few months now and apparently as long as you stayed away from the edges, it was mostly fine. And some of it was already put back in place! Having some of the work already done was a refreshing change of pace.

No empires on the war march. No dragons agitating for war. No primals masquerading as gods on the verge of being summoned to wreak havoc. No black-robed masked men lurking around in the shadows causing problems. No stupid gits in need of a good thrashing to get their heads on straight. So upon being escorted to the tenement that would serve as her home, at least for now, Tiza decided to do something she practically never got to do, without worrying about feeling bad about it afterwards.

    She took a nap.

That's likely where you find her when you come into the house; maybe you heard you had a new housemate and are coming to investigate, or maybe you didn't and this is a complete surprise, but there she is stretched out on the couch, boots kicked off and hand dangling lazily along the floor, peacefully snoring away. This is absolute bliss.

    Hot and Steamy

Before she was the Warrior of Light, she was just a plain old Adventurer (actually adventuring was only ever meant to be a side-hustle and not a permanent thing, but no harm done) and as such the Adventurer's work ethic had rubbed off on Tiza; take the job, no matter how insignificant or petty it might seem because at the end of the day you're putting some more good into the world by helping someone out, and there's gold in it for you (and as the other Scions had quickly come to realize, gold was the one thing Tiza was in continual short supply of). Fighting monsters, delivering packages, looking for lost people...or enjoying a hot spring. Who is she to say no?

Having tossed her clothes rather haphazardly in the changing area, Tiza walks on out into the bathing area stretching langourously as she does so. "Gods this is gonna feel good. Ah shite, should have checked if there was anythin' to drink." Oh well, even if there isn't the dip is going to feel good enough on its on.

And it absolutely is, shivering with delight as she steps into the warm water. "Oooooh where you been all my life, luv?" She asks, closing her eyes and seating herself, leaning back against the edge with a sigh, then letting herself sink down until the water is just below chin level.

"Okay. Ten outta ten, far as I'm concerned." She mutters happily. So focused was she on getting into the water, and so taken by how good it feels, this entire time she failed to realize the bath had another occupant, likely as naked as she is.

    Yeehaw

Naps and baths are great, but eventually, it's time to get down to some actual work. This featherraptor thing sounded fun. How often do you get to try and ride a giant lizard? Not often enough, if you ask her.

After a few hours tracking finds the featherraptor by the side of a stream, gulping down mouthfuls of water. Tiza glances at it from behind a tree. "Okay, so...I'm thinkin' if I can get up onto its back I might be able to use them spiny things along its back to steer. Y'think?" She asks. The beastie's big, but that's fine, Tiza's feeling pretty agile thanks to going back to her Pugilist routes as an Outlander, and just...full of extra energy in general because the Outlands. "If I get up there, maybe we stun it, get the beastie drowsy enough that we can lead 'im back to town. Might even be able to snag some info on how to ride it." She looks over at you. "Savvy?" She asks. Better do this quick, the raptor's not going to be thirsty much longer.

A smile graced his lips at the sight of the Hero of Light in repose. She deserved it, with all she'd been through in his time on Hydaelyn, much less since. As such, he left her to it for a time, and only when he heard stirrings from his spot in the kitchen did he spring to action.

A familiar, cocoa scent was there to greet her as she woke. It was reminiscent of snowy peaks, warm hearths, and lordlings too large for their britches and fully aware of it. The hint of spice in the air spoke of loss, a note of poignant remembrance.

And then there was the clanking of boots. There had been many that Tiza had heard over the years. Harsh, firm, soft; hesitant, sure, quiet; clanking, rattling, soft-soled. These had a particular timbre that, in combination with the rattling of chain shirt brought her back to her time in Ishgard.

Clonk. A tray met the small table before the couch, and should her eyes open, it was not the heraldry of any of the houses of Ishgard that met her. Nonetheless, the body shape was... familiar. Lanky, in that way elezen were. Silver hair, longer now...

"My dearest friend, it does me good to see you well," Haurchefant Greystone greeted her, the same pleasant smile on his face he'd always had.

As Tiza is slowly roused to consciousness, the familiar and inviting scent of cocoa helps bring her out of her slumber faster. Blinking blearily awake, she sits up, stifling a yawn. For a moment, her present circumstances elude her and she could swear she was back at Fortemps Manor, having fallen asleep on a couch again. The shape of an Elezen in front of her doesn't help; if Ul'dah isn't her home, then it is most certainly Ishgard, Fortemps Manor most of all.

"Mmmmnnnh...mornin'." She manages after a moment, rubbing her eyes. "Evenin'? Ah shite, what time even is..." The voice of the Elezen catches up to her, a dagger out of time in her heart. After a moment, she simply turns her head and looks up in disbelief. There he is, smiling pleasantly like the Vault had never happened, and offering a cup of cocoa to her.

"...Harchie?" Tiza manages, finally, then shakes her head. "Haurchefant?"

This is either a dream or someone's idea of a very bad joke.

    IA:

For a long while, the hesitant octoling stood in the frame of the doorway. Oh yes, the place was a far cry from her apartment in Inkopolis, but she had gotten used to being far from home, hasn't she? No, what was more worrisome was that this was a gift given. Sure,s he was under no allusions that these lodgings were temporary, but there was no reason for them to give anything to her. Even if it appeared as dank and without electricity and probably full of bugs. It was the principle.

A sharp inhalation of breath and she took her first steps into the space. Well, if there was one thing that she was going to do is it was to tidy it up. Though it wouldn't pay anyone back for the hospitality, she wasn't going to be a burden on anyone. She nodded, a certain satisfaction in that decision. Tomorrow, she will head out to the guilds to see if there was any work that she could do.

    IB

The contemplative cephalopod took a few tentative steps toward the edge of nothing, her eyes cast upon the sea of stars. The blackened gloom reminded her of the depths, or perhaps the holo-screens back home when it was time to simulate night. This was much better, and was a scene that etched itself into Eight's memory.

Memory. The one thing she was glad to still have. The last time she appeared in a place with no recollection how she got there, she had no memory of who she was, where she was, or what she was. Just a pair of accusing eyes, and the dim hum of halogen lights. Though she greatly missed home, this was better.

Despite herself, she kept moving forward to the edge so close that she could no longer see ground beneath her. Stars and nothing. Where was she? Was this truly not even her planet? Were she to jump now, would she return home?

A powerful urge, both terrible and tremendous, compelled her to take one more step.

    IC

A bemused octoling smirked as she saw various lines of text appear in her book. It would seem it was kind of like a tablet that conveyed messages in real time. While lacking in technological sophistication, she could appreciate just how effective such a device would be.

    She wanted to try it!

    "A riddle:
    Until I am measured
    I am not known,
    Yet how you miss me
    When I have flown.
    "

    IIA.

An astonished octoling was amazed at what she was seeing. Indeed, she had every intention of earning her way in this place, but she wasn't aware that the job would require... that. The Great Featheraptor was a sight to behold. More raptor than feathers, surely, and twice as fierce besides. Not necessarily the type of thing that one would expect to ride!

A confident smirk flashed across her face: she was most definitely going to give it a try.

But to run in on her own would be a recipe for disaster. That thing was going to fight back and hard. Worse, if the attempt failed there was no telling when they would get another chance. There was no doing this solo.

Looking around, she noticed another person nearby. Not wanting to give away the position, she reached for something reflective to get their attention. They needed a plan, and they needed it quick.

    IIIC

An irritated octoling grimaced as she stared at the residue of suds coming in from the windows. She just cleaned the room! Well... she suppose it could be worse. Whatever the stuff was definitely seemed to clean things more than hurt, but she was going to need something to dry up the mess. What she needed was some dry linens abd a bucket of water. The linens was easy enough, but since the last big clean-up she had used up most of the potable water.

Ugh. With some trepidation she opened the door only to let in an even greater torrent of bubble and foam. UGH. Taking a tentative step she--whoa!! She wasn't prepare for the sudden burst of slick acceleration. Huh. The liquid was unusually lubricious, wasn't it? Perhaps if she...

A quick kick-off later and the hastened octoling was making her way down the fairway to where the well was waiting. Her earlier frustration now given way to playful glee. She still wasn't sure what this stuff was but sliding through it was all kinds of fun! Hopefully nothing unexpected would come sliding into her...

Emet-Selch was, emphatically, not helping. He was, after all, quite good at not helping- not helping was, if you were to ask certain people, commonly held to be his specialty.

At present, not helping took the form of sitting gamely in a nearby tree with an apple in hand, watching the goings-on with keen disinterest. "Hmm?" Ah. Light.

He gave an exaggerated wave and the sort of smile that said 'Oh yes, best of luck. I'm sure you have this well in hand.'

    IA - Residency

[Considering she'd already dealt with having just kind of... cold-opened her work day in a meteorite crash site, the shock of going to another world was one she seemed to be taking fairly well. After all, where she came from, the notion of people crossing between worlds wasn't even unheard of. Though there was supposedly some semblance of volition said people typically had in the matter. Something that, for example, would allow them to return from whence they came once they had experienced it the first time.

No matter. Adaptiveness was one of the foremost virtues of the Simic, after all, and there was nothing stopping her from continuing her work here. She wouldn't even miss a beat.

All she needed was the right materials.

And that was why whatever poor roommate was stuck with her would open the door to find the walls stacked high with glass containers of all shapes and sizes, most containing some sort of local fish or aquatic plant, or a sample of some... slime or another, along with a desk tucked away into the corner. Various oddly-shaped and very sharp-looking instruments were arranged on the wall alongside some detailed ink sketches of various commonplace flora and fauna to be found in the Outskirts of Concord.

And the bed had been shoved into a corner, almost as if it was an afterthought. And it was with a similar lack of enthusiasm that she greeted whoever just walked in, not even looking up from what she seemed to be writing.]

I suggest you don't touch the two specimens in the corner. They appear to be highly poisonous.

local species kelp freshwater plants, bullhead? cattail, second pass

[The style of writing changes a few minutes later; something very precise and formal.]

I am looking for an escort to assist in hunting down a creature called a 'flail snail'. I have been informed that they are vicious when provoked, so please come prepared. If it cannot be taken alive, then I would need it killed as cleanly as possible.

It must be killed without the use of poison or fire magic. I will of course offer the shell in compensation for a successful hunt.

[Then it's back to the sloppy shorthand.]

    IIIB - Habitat

[It was more of an Izzet thing, all told- given first of all that they were the ones to maintain the boilers and steam infrastructure of her former home city and given second that warm water just wasn't quite as good for study as cold water- but having finally had the chance to disrobe, settle in, and all but force herself to enjoy the experience more in sensation than in study... she had to admit, the Izzet might have kind of sort of been onto something just a little bit. Not that she would admit it, just the same.

Being able to breathe underwater meant she could enjoy the full-body experience, as well; and with the mix of bubbles and warmth cutting a mile-wide lapse in her own attentiveness, it was easy for her to miss if someone were to simply... come in while she was enjoying herself.

At which point they'd step into the artificial hot springs and see a big shark fin poking out from the surface and making lazy laps around the water...]

Let it be known, then, that Durant isn't an intelligent man.

Seated at the edge of the pool, he chuckled as he slipped his tail in the water, wiggling soaked golden feathers in a lure. Was her kind the type to be enticed by such things? He didn't know. What he did, however, was that she was enjoying a swim and he would not disturb her... much.]

More importantly, she'd know those feathers anywhere.

Swimming to a shallow reach with her usual hydrodynamic grace, she finally stood up out of the water in full immodesty, the ineffable facial expression of a shark turned to a subtle grin.]

(Mile wide lapse in attentiveness might be right. The doctor isn't the only one with a preference for cooler waters, but hot springs aren't so bad. The real problem is a lack of oceans for a certain large lizard to work with> Sure, he's not nearly as large as he used to be, but it didn't stop the hot springs from feeling...small.

Granted, this is technically the first time he's spotted such a fresh catch in a body of water, but there's something different about it. Something that keeps Godzilla from acting impulsively. Maybe he's just curious.

Curious, but sometimes a little inconsiderate. It'll be hard for Roussette to not notice the big lizard head dunking his head in the water to examine the shark fin and the fish it's attached to.

I suppose I wasn't really sure what I was expecting, but here we are.

I'll have to admit I'm just a little bit...homesick? Unsure of what's ahead? But then I'm probably far from the only person here experiencing that.

I can still feel the connection I always had with my goddess, but her voice is...muted, considerably. That's rather worrying since it's never really happened before.

I wonder, am I losing my touch?

It's, um, no problem! Between Pacca, Adah, and Cecil, I'm used to seeing a little skin. Or scales and fur, in their case. As is, this place is, um, meant for more than one.

(The goat(?) -- he had a pair of little horns, floppy ears, and white fur -- gestured for his opposite to join him. He was rather short, five feet tall at best, and smiled kindly at the orc. Truthfully, he was made slightly uncomfortable by the new arrival, but it was someone he hadn't met before - a possible new friend. That was enough to overcome any reticence the situation lent.)

If you'd found me a year ago, I might think different, but exposure to that consort of kobolds has a way of stripping inhibitions.

(His voice tends to the fondness you'd expect speaking of lifelong friends or lovers, and the broadness of his smile matched.)

    [personal profile] whobringsshadow 2021-05-22 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
    IA. Home Sweet Home
The door opened onto what was, quite possibly, the most humble expression of the phrase 'humble abode' that he'd ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on. Oh, good. "Truly, does the kindness of others never cease. Free lodging, and worth every onze of coin paid for it."

The man was dressed in a black robe, obviously ornamental or perhaps ceremonial, with an expression of carefully-maintained boredom on his face, hair in gray-black save a stripe of white at the front. With a sigh, he slouched into the nearest chair. It was a practiced slouch, the sort of gesture that was perfected over a long and distinguished career as a professional sloucher. And, a moment's careful contemplation of the ceiling later, he added, "Oh, yes, I'm supposed to be your new roommate." The word didn't so much roll off his tongue as drip from it, like a bite of an unfamiliar and unwelcome flavor.

    IB. It's Nothing
The sight of a broken world was nothing new to Emet-Selch. He'd seen one of them, firsthand, and seen to the breaking of seven others. It did not inspire him to paroxysms of performative wonder to see the end of the landscape, with only stars above and beneath. Neither were the fervent prayers of the mortal masses to gods they'd never seen anything surprising to his ears, not after all those eons spent carefully dispensing the forbidden lore of summoning...

What was new, was that he was trapped in it. Trapped in this dying world, this meat, scurrying pointlessly off towards its own inevitable grave. Death, an ending, would have been preferable to this existence as one of the sundered. At least, perhaps, he might have seen them all again. But this...

His lips turned, for the briefest moment, upward. "Weary wanderer. No fight left to fight... No life left to live." How ironic, that those words, spoken under another sky, on another broken world, should come to mind at a time like this.

Tiza is busy scrounging for food in what passes for a kitchen when she hears the door open. But before she can rise from the cupboard she's currently exploring, she hears that voice. Tied up in so much uncertainty and what-ifs, and yes, even regrets. She remembers. She promised she would.

Still, she takes a moment to compose herself while Emet makes himself comfortable before she rises, rubbing her hands together. "Well, look on the bright side, Emie." She teases lightly, leaning in the doorway, giving the Ascian Emperor a wink.

"Can't go any worse than last time, right?"

Humour is one of her primary defense mechanisms.

IA. If You Thought the Beds Were Too Small...

(Did you hear the heavy thoom of what sounded like a comet crashing down from space? Yeah, here he is. This plus plus plus sized Starfallen is mercifully not at his full height, but fifteen feet tall is still a noticeable difference between it and everyone else. This big, scaly boy doesn't seem able to talk and while his entry into Concord is first met with panic, it subsided when he was dubbed a Starfallen and refused to hurt anyone.

Messages have gone out over the Liber Nuntiorum of the Astronomical Society somehow learning the creature answers to the name 'Godzilla' and, while harmless, the big guy has perched himself atop the Mage's Tower and it's upsetting the researchers within. Curiously, he looks out into the surrounding area, as if he's surveying the land. Unfortunately, the inability to talk means he can't really ask people, so he needs to mildly inconvenience a few mages for a little bit.
    )

    IIC. The Easiest Escort Mission

(So it turns not that Godzilla can not only understand people (mostly), he can understand directions and requests. Escorting a caravan? Yeah sure, follow the rolling cart for a while, make sure nothing happens to it. This might be the easiest sol a Starfallen can make, since a creature of his size's keeping away just about anything that would approach. That and the vague resemblance to a Swordtail Tyrant helps.

There's only one time he gets mildly distracted and that's when it comes to fording the river. Lugging the stuff across? Nah, not that. Once Godzilla gets in the water, he gives a pleased rumble and takes a moment to let himself soak. Big guy likes water. Who would've guessed? It seems he's interested in taking a break and, as such a contributor to the job, the driver seems to agree. Maybe join him? Or if it's that urgent, maybe he can be convinced to get going...

    IIIC. Surprisingly Good With Kids

(Godzilla, thankfully, knows to treat the young Foamdancer with as much fragility as people, so when it comes to rounding it up, he...certainly tries. It almost looks as if Godzilla is able to communicate with the creature, the two grumbling or exchanging noises, but it leads to the youngling excitedly slipping away. Even to a really tall lizard, the tyke is as slippery as ever.

Same for the soap. You ever seen a dinosaur trip? Because that's exactly the view Concord is treated to when the big guy steps on too many suds and flops right onto his side. What follows is a slow blink and a huff through his nostrils. This is gonna take a while.
